My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Who remembers the toy line “My Little Pony” from the 1980s? This toy line was originally conceived by Bonnie Zacherle in 1981 under the name “My Pretty Pony.” It was renamed My Little Pony and has been produced as plastic pony figurines by Hasbro since 1983. In 1984, the pilot episode for a television series was aired, featuring the voices of Tony Randal and Sandra Duncan. This franchise has gone through four generations of different toy designs and media adaptations. But in 2010, a new series of My Little Pony premiered that would ignite an unexpected phenomenon of fans.

Sailor Moon

*NOTE: In case you were looking for a review of the original version and storyline, you’re out of luck. This review is based on the original English Dub from 1995 through 2000.*

Where were you in 1995? I was only a year old in this year. In 1995, we saw the release of the films Toy Story from Pixar, Pocahontas from Walt Disney Pictures, and Apollo 13 from Universal. One of the cartoons that I remember but didn’t really have any interest in watching at the time was Fillmore! But recently, I began looking back on some of the cartoons that I neglected to take a look at. Among them were, Disney’s The Mighty Ducks, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Fillmore!

Sofia the First

Sofia the First

Tonight, I’m breaking the protocol in reviewing cartoon’s from back in the day. I’m going to tackle a more recent cartoon that is currently on the air. I’ve mentioned before that I love superhero cartoons, action-based cartoons, and comedies. Aside from those, I love a cartoon or any form of medium that involves a princess fairy tale premise. In 2012, writer Craig Gerber pitched to Disney Channel executives for a new fairy tale series. This series would be called Sofia the First.
